Simply Complex is an exhibition with works by artist Ingrid van der Aa, after winning the exhibition prize at Harbour Sculpture Prize in Woolwich. Art Gallery on Darling in Balmain is gratefully acknowledged for this support.

Simply Complex explores how something as simple as white plastic can be transformed into something as complex as the art works on show here. In a world where sustainability and beauty point ever more to all things natural, Simply Complex investigates plastics as organic, aesthetic and sustainable. The lifespan of a plastic pipe for example can last for 100 years underground without leakages. Plastic can be recycled 5 – 10 times. There is no other material that offers that kind of sustainability. Ingrid is passionate in exploring different materials, unlocking their beauty and deciphering their meaning. Here she simply transforms man made hard Perspex polymer into natural, organic soft shapes, fluid and sculptural, on and off the wall. Pure and white.
